Hungary demands EU immediately lift ban on Russian oil and gas

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto has called on the European Union to lift restrictions on imports of Russian energy as soon as possible. He published the corresponding statement on the X social network.

“With the escalation of the war in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a significant part of the world’s energy supplies is under threat. Europe is particularly vulnerable, as the EU has already banned imports of Russian energy. Now the conflict in the Middle East is also reducing world supplies. “When supply decreases, prices increase,” Szijjártó emphasized.

In his opinion, Brussels should reconsider its decision and allow the supply of Russian oil and gas. According to the minister, maintaining the restrictions could negatively affect the economies of the European Union countries.

“If Brussels maintains the sanctions, it will cause serious damage to the European people and the European economy,” he said.

At the same time, last week Szijjártó visited Moscow, where he held negotiations on the supply of Russian oil and gas at previous prices.

Earlier, Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Ausland suggested that the US and Israeli attacks on Iran could reactivate the discussion in the European Union on the import of Russian natural gas.

“The EU has made it very clear that it wants to get rid of Russian oil and gas, but the events of the last three or four days have also been difficult. Given the geopolitical situation that we are currently witnessing, I believe that the discussion will resume,” he said during a conference in Oslo.
