In the Cherkasy region, the Security Service of Ukraine together with the National Police prevented an attempt on the life of a family of volunteers. The criminal group planned to kill the head of the charitable foundation, which actively supports the Defense Forces of Ukraine, and her husband, a demobilized soldier of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who was seriously wounded at the front. The attackers planned to attack the couple’s home using four improvised explosive devices. They planned to throw an explosive device filled with gunpowder, nuts and incendiary cords into the bedroom where the volunteers were staying.
According to the investigation, the reason for the crime was the refusal of the victims to pay a non-existent debt for the repair of their house. However, the prosecutor’s office notes that the motive for the crime could also be a long-term hostile relationship with the victims.
The law enforcement officers detained two members of the group on the spot when they were preparing to break into the house. During the searches, improvised explosive devices, components for their manufacture, and phones with evidence of criminal activity were seized.
The arrested perpetrators are currently in custody. Suspicion was announced to them for h. 3 Art. 15 and h. 2 Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for responsibility for intentional murder committed by a group of persons based on a prior conspiracy.
