In Ukraine, HIV is diagnosed in 29 people every day, 3 people die from AIDS: Ministry of Health
Every day in Ukraine, 29 new cases of HIV infection, 8 cases of AIDS and 3 deaths caused by AIDS are recorded. About this reported Olha Klymova, specialist of the department of management and prevention of HIV infection of the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
“Over 2.5 million tests were conducted this year, compared to only 1.5 million last year. In 10 months of the current year, 12,000 people with a primary diagnosis of HIV/AIDS were registered.”, she said.
In Ukraine, over the past two years, many new cases of HIV infection have been detected already in the late stages.
“In 2023-24, 60% of HIV-infected people who were first taken to the dispensary register were found to be at a late stage. This means that these people were not examined for HIV for several years, were not tested and, accordingly, were without medication. This indicates that many people still neglect to get tested for HIV”, – said in the report.
At the same time, Olha Klymova noted that the number of tests for HIV infection in health care institutions has increased significantly. These data point to the importance of continued education and access to testing to reduce late diagnosis and improve treatment effectiveness.
