Medical scandal in Zhytomyr: the doctor issued false MRI results, more than 4 million UAH were seized

In Zhytomyr, law enforcement officers seized more than 4 million hryvnias from a doctor at one of the local medical institutions, who issued false results of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for conscripts. As informs police of the Zhytomyr region, this case is part of a large-scale investigation into a group of doctors who helped conscripts obtain fictitious medical documents to establish disability groups.

Police officers found out that some men of draft age, without undergoing examinations, had in their medical records MRI results prepared by a 56-year-old doctor from one of the city’s diagnostic centers. As part of the investigation, law enforcement officers conducted searches during which significant amounts of money were seized: 80,000 dollars, more than 23,000 euros, as well as other materials that may indicate illegal activity, including hard drives, optical media, a laptop and a mobile phone.

According to preliminary information, the crime is classified under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — receipt of illegal benefits by an official. If found guilty, the doctor faces from 5 to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for a period of up to three years.

It is worth noting that this is not the first case of exposure of medical workers in Zhytomyr for similar crimes. In August, law enforcement officers detained a nurse from one of the local medical institutions while accepting a bribe for establishing fictitious disability groups for conscripts. Then she was caught in the act of handing over part of the “thank you” amount. The entire scheme is currently under investigation.
