Mobilization in Ukraine: it became known how many need to be recruited into the ranks of the Armed Forces by the end of the year

Every month, the Defense Forces need to recruit at least 50,000 people, and by the end of the year - 200,000.

In order to cover losses and create new brigades, Ukraine needs to mobilize 200,000 people by the end of the year. About this write German publication Die Welt.

The authors of the article note that the Defense Forces need to recruit at least 50,000 people every three months, and 200,000 by the end of the year. According to the publication’s sources in “European security circles”, Ukraine has been lagging behind these indicators in recent months.

Colonel Markus Reisner, who heads the Officer Training Institute at the Theresian Military Academy in Vienna, says more than 200,000 new soldiers are needed. According to him, starting from 2022, Ukraine has lost a significant part of combat-ready units.

“In addition, many of the remaining soldiers are in an unstable physical and psychological state, as the army can hardly carry out rotations,” the expert explained.

Journalists believe that the recruitment of prisoners to the Armed Forces “demonstrates the seriousness of the situation.”

“The involvement of convicts in this war is nothing new. Russia has been filling its ranks with prisoners since the summer of 2022. Thousands of them were seriously wounded or killed in the fighting for the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in 2023 alone. The fact that the Ukrainian army is now also recruits soldiers in prisons, shows the seriousness of the situation. Putin’s army is seizing the initiative on all fronts and is advancing slowly in the east of the country. The main problem in Ukraine is the lack of soldiers since the beginning of the war, who died or were injured,” the article says.

In addition, Die Welt notes, the management of some Ukrainian prisons defends its own interests and does not want to release prisoners and lose “cheap labor.”

“It seems that they want to get rid of those who don’t work well, and they want to keep people like me,” journalists quoted a prisoner named Maksym.
