Opponents of the KyivPride March gathered on Independence Square: military personnel and children among the protesters
On June 21, dozens of people gathered on Independence Square in Kyiv to oppose the KyivPride March. Among the participants of the action are military personnel and children, most of those present hid their faces.
The participants state that they came “to support the Ukrainian family and against degradation.” One of the soldiers who joined the event said that he took a two-day leave to take part in the action.
People with children also came to the Maidan. They held posters with the inscriptions “Family values unite generations”, “Traditional families – strong Ukraine”, “Nation, race, family” and other slogans.
The day before, the Kyiv City State Administration stressed the need to respect human rights and freedoms, diversity and uphold the rule of law. The Kyiv City State Administration called on people with different views to comply with the requirements of the law, respect the rights of others, and not resort to aggression or provocations.
The city administration noted that Kyiv is working to ensure that urban space, services, information, and participation in public life are accessible to “all people, regardless of age, health status, gender, social status, or other characteristics.”
“The Kyiv City State Administration is convinced that it is the ability of people with different views to peacefully exercise their rights, respecting each other’s rights and freedoms, that is evidence of the democratic maturity of society and the values that Ukraine is fighting for today,” the statement said.
