Suspect in the murder of Andriy Portnov detained in Germany

A person suspected of the murder of a prominent Ukrainian lawyer, Andriy Portnov, has been detained in Germany. According to media reports, the suspect is a citizen of Ukraine. Other personal data about him and the exact place of detention are not being disclosed at this time. This was reported by the Russian news agency TASS, citing a statement from the police and the Spanish TV channel Antena 3.

Andriy Portnov was one of the key lawyers of the post-Soviet space and deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine in 2010–2014 under Viktor Yanukovych. After the Revolution of Dignity, Portnov left for Spain, where he was actively engaged in legal and media activities, filing lawsuits against Ukrainian officials and journalists in international courts.

Before his death, Portnov was in Kyiv, where he met with several people close to the ruling elite, including co-owner of the Kvartal 95 studio Timur Mindich, deputy head of the Presidential Office Oleg Tatarov, and director of the State Bureau of Investigation Oleksiy Sukhachev.

It was also reported that before his death, Portnov was re-registering the property of his family members, in particular, an elite estate in Kozyn on the banks of the Dnieper, the estimated cost of which is about 2.5 million euros. The investigation in Spain is ongoing, and the motives for the crime are currently unknown.
