The Crimean Tatar language was taught at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy
At the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” (NaUKMA) introduced the teaching of the Crimean Tatar language as an optional subject in September. The institution plans to use modern teaching methods to deepen the understanding of the multinational nature of Ukrainian society. reports this Crimean Tatar Resource Center.
“Just like any other language, Crimean Tatar is not only a means of communication, but also the basis of a unique culture – with its literature, folklore, traditions and music. It belongs to the Turkic language group, which makes it particularly interesting for comparative linguistic studies. By studying this language, students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history, literature and art of the Crimean Tatars, which enriches the cultural space of Ukraine, noted the course teacher, philologist Ayshe Arnautova.
She emphasized that teaching the Crimean Tatar language at the university is a manifestation of recognition of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and respect for the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.
“Teaching the Crimean Tatar language in Ukrainian universities is, in fact, confirmation of the territorial integrity of the state. This is a demonstration of a special attitude not only to Crimea as a geographical area, but also to the native land of the Crimean Tatars, the indigenous people of Ukraine. It also shows respect for the historical heritage and identity of the people, who for centuries shaped the history and culture not only of Crimea, but also of Ukraine in general, Arnautova emphasized.
The philologist also explained that choosing NaUKMA to start the course has a symbolic meaning, because this university is known for its special educational philosophy:
“Taking into account the fact that the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA) is one of the leading Ukrainian universities thanks to its unique educational philosophy, which combines scientific activity, high quality of education, creation of new knowledge and the formation of an independent, nationally conscious personality, the introduction of the Crimean Tatar language course is an important and symbolic step.
After all, it is not only about learning the language, but also about immersion in the culture, history, folklore and worldview of the Crimean Tatar people. This opens up new opportunities for the development of intercultural dialogue, the formation of a deeper understanding of the multi-ethnic nature of Ukrainian society, and the integration of the Crimean Tatar heritage into the all-Ukrainian humanitarian space.
