The first direct Eurorail trains to Bratislava, Budapest and Vienna left Uzhhorod
On September 12, the first Eurorail trains left Uzhgorod — a direct connection with Bratislava, Budapest and Vienna was opened. This was reported by the press service of “Ukrzaliznytsia”.
“ Today, 280 passengers will be the first to test the new fast and comfortable service”, the message says.
The launch was made possible thanks to the construction of a European-standard track between Chop and Uzhgorod — for the first time since the independence of Ukraine. The project was implemented by “Ukrzaliznytsia” jointly with the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine. Financing was provided by the European Commission through the Connected Europe Facility program and the European Investment Bank.
“It is a symbol of integration into the EU common transport space. Already today, passengers from Uzhgorod can directly reach Bratislava, Budapest and Vienna. The next step is to scale up such projects and expand convenient European routes for Ukrainians, noted Deputy Prime Minister of Reconstruction Oleksiy Kuleba.
Starting from December 2025, after updating the traffic schedule, passengers will be offered convenient connections with domestic flights. In particular, the number of night trains will increase, which will coordinate with European flights for comfortable transfers.
In addition, the new route No. 644/647 Zahon – Berehove – Borzhava started operating on September 12, 2025. The train runs on a 1,435 mm Eurogauge and directly connects Berehove with Zahony, an important transport hub from where a large number of trains depart for Hungary, in particular to Budapest.
