The government has decided to allocate UAH 400 million to support those released from Russian captivity and their families
The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to allocate an additional UAH 400 million to support citizens released from Russian captivity, as well as the families of those still in captivity. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
In total, in 2025, the state budget has allocated UAH 1.2 billion to assist those released from captivity and their families. These funds were allocated for annual and one-time payments, as well as for providing people with basic necessities after their return.
The additional funding will fully cover the needs for payments until the end of the year.
“The state must ensure dignity for those who have survived unlawful deprivation of liberty and their families who are waiting for the return of their relatives,” Svyrydenko emphasized.
Previously, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law on payments to servicemen released from captivity who have serious illnesses and require long-term inpatient treatment. According to the Prime Minister, such support will be provided during the first three months of rehabilitation.
In general, Ukraine provides those released from Russian captivity with comprehensive assistance to return to peaceful life. It includes paid leave, one-time and monthly payments, as well as legal support to resolve legal issues.
