The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine made a statement regarding the humanitarian response in the Kursk region

Ukraine, observing the norms of international humanitarian law and the protection of human rights, exercises control over certain districts of the Kursk region, while steadfastly fulfilling international obligations regarding the protection of the civilian population during hostilities. Since the beginning of the Kursk operation, the Defense Forces of Ukraine, as a professional European army, demonstrated a high level of compliance with the principles of international humanitarian law. Civilian residents of the Kursk region received humanitarian aid, met their basic needs, and had the opportunity to leave the war zones.

In view of the humanitarian situation in the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine appealed to the United Nations to join the humanitarian response in the Kursk region, sending a corresponding diplomatic note to the UN.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a note to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), requesting it to also join humanitarian response measures and monitor compliance with the principles of international humanitarian law in accordance with the 1949 Geneva Convention on the Protection of the Civilian Population in Time of War.

Ukraine confirms its readiness to comply with international obligations and to provide comprehensive assistance to the activities of UN and ICRC employees in the territories of the Kursk region.
