The number of IDPs is decreasing due to the return to the occupied territories: Lubinets
Dmytro Lubinets, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated that a significant number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) are forced to return to temporarily occupied territories and front-line cities due to socio-economic difficulties in their new place. That’s what he’s about stated during the public summit “(Re)united: Rethinking social sustainability in Ukraine”.
Lubinets noted that at the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, relations between IDPs and host communities were mostly positive. However, over time, a disproportionate number of negative cases of interaction began to appear in the media and social networks, which increased the tension.
“As of now, the situation is getting worse – we have a decreasing number of IDPs, because they are returning to the TOT of Ukraine and the frontline cities due to socio-economic difficulties in a new place! This is a serious concern”Lubinets noted.
He expressed deep concern about this and added that he had already raised this issue at the government level.
The Ombudsman emphasized the importance of transparent information about state support for IDPs so that people have confidence in their future. He also emphasized that only through dialogue can one strengthen trust in the state and strengthen unity among Ukrainians with different life experiences.
