Ukrainian medical universities are implementing digital technologies for teaching teachers

Medical education in Ukraine is gradually changing in accordance with modern standards and challenges, and one of the key directions of this transformation is the development of digital competencies of medical university teachers. An example of such an initiative was the international project Erasmus+ KA2 UkraineDigiTrans (Digital Transformation for Medical Education in Ukraine), reports the press service of the Ministry of Health.

The goal of the project is to provide Ukrainian teachers with knowledge and skills in the use of digital tools, simulation methods and modern approaches to teaching. This should make the educational process in medical universities more interactive, accessible and effective.

“The digital transformation of medical education is not only about tools, but first of all about people who know how to use them. It is important for us that every student of a medical university in Ukraine has access to high-quality and modern education”, – noted Deputy Minister of Health for Digital Development Maria Karchevych.

Within the project in 2024-2025, Ukrainian teachers underwent a number of international trainings, including a five-day Train-the-Trainers course in Finland and the Sustainable Medical Education Methods and Tools program in Greece.

The training participants mastered the basics of digital pedagogy, learned to work with interactive platforms such as MIRO, Mentimeter and Padlet, created their own training programs and studied approaches to support the psycho-emotional health of teachers and students.

Special emphasis was placed on the integration of augmented reality and artificial intelligence technologies into the educational process, including the modeling of virtual patients and the creation of clinical simulations — imitations of real medical cases, in which students practice the skills of diagnosis, treatment and communication with patients in a safe environment. As of mid-2025, dozens of Ukrainian teachers who have undergone training both abroad and in Ukraine have already joined the project.
