The Government of Ukraine has introduced a unified procedure for arranging workplaces for people with disabilities
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution introducing a unified procedure for arranging workplaces for people with disabilities. The document provides for a clear mechanism for re-planning, repairing and refurbishing premises to make them fully inclusive.
The resolution was prepared by the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine. It will help employers to adapt workplaces to the individual needs of employees with various disabilities – motor, vision, hearing and others. This should expand employment opportunities and promote better integration of people with disabilities in the labor market.
“The Ukrainian labor market must become truly open and accessible to everyone. We create conditions under which people with disabilities can work comfortably, realize their potential and take an active part in the economic life of the country. It is not only about employment, but about the full integration of people with disabilities into the life of communities – when everyone feels needed, involved and has equal opportunities for development,” noted Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba.
The procedure for adapting workplaces includes several stages: submitting an application, assessing the employee’s needs, engaging specialists, determining the necessary measures, performing work, and final checking the results.
There are separate solutions for different categories of people: for people with musculoskeletal disorders – ramps, handrails, barrier-free routes, adapted sanitary facilities and evacuation exits; for people with visual impairments – tactile strips, Braille, contrast marking, sound signals and special programs; for the hearing-impaired – visual pointers, text instructions, induction loops and sign language translation; for people with amputations – barrier-free access, handrails, lever handles and other convenience elements.
Financing of such measures can be carried out at the expense of the Fund for Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities or from other specified sources.
